Dana White Rips Apart Sport of Soccer. Bad Idea?

Published on March 27th, 2012

UFC president Dana White is never shy to speak his mind, and he didn’t hold back when sharing his opinion of the world’s most popular sport, soccer.

“Can’t stand soccer. It’s the least-talented sport on Earth. There’s a reason three-year old’s can play soccer. When you’re playing a game, when the net is that big and the score is 3-1 (and that’s a blowout) are you kidding me? You know how untalented you have to be to score three times when the net is that big?” White commented.

Is ripping apart the most popular sport in the world and coincidentally in Brazil  really such a great idea? The UFC recently announced that UFC 147: Silva vs. Sonnen 2 would be June 23rd in Brazil and held at the Olympic Stadium. White is well aware of the ‘uneducated opinions’ which surround the sport of MMA and the negative connotations that exist out there surrounding the brutality of the sport. The promotion is seeking to host their largest event ever and break their current attendance record held by the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada of 55,724. Soccer is HUGELY popular in Brazil, some of the UFC’s Brazilian fans may have a difference of opinion with White on this one.

White made these remarks while talking with reporters from the Calgary Sun to promote an upcoming upcoming UFC fight.

White also made a point to express to Canadians his love for hockey. He expressed his support for fighting in the sport of hockey and feels that anyone who wants to see fighting out of hockey has a few loose screws. With the UFC recently announcing their plans to return to Canada two more times in 2012 Dana White clearly understands the importance of appealing to the UFC’s Canadian fans, and takes a stance I’m sure he knows many Canadian hockey fans would support. One would think it would be equally  important to appeal to his Brazilian fans, no?
