Toronto Raptors preparing for life after Bosh.

Published on June 25th, 2010

If last nights NBA Draft was any indication that Chris Bosh is headed to either Miami or Chicago I don’t know what is. Miami started a day early by trading away Cook and a first round draft pick for a second round non-guaranteed pick. This left Miami with only 2 players under contract going into FA on July 1st in Michael Beasley and Mario Chalmers.

Chicago traded away Kirk Hinrich and the #17 pick to Washington for essentially nothing. Although the trade can’t be official until July 8th but it has been widely speculated and will provide Chicago the opportunity to sign 2 max contract players.

It will be interesting to see if the big three go to 1 team or they split up into two different teams and compete against each other. It may eventually come down to an ego thing if LeBron thinks he should be the #1 guy and people want to come to him or if he is willing to share the spotlight not as an individual but as a team.

The Toronto Raptors said coming into the draft that they would select the best available player at #13. It just so happened that the best available player was none other then a 225 lbs 6’10″ PF out of the University of North Carolina. Funny remember 2003? 219 lbs 6’10″ PF out of Georgia Tech.

Ed Davis

Toronto Raptors drafted Ed Davis in the lottery of the 2010 NBA Draft. Ed Davis was expected to be a top 10 pick and slipped down to #13 when the Toronto Raptors decided they like his game. With uncertainty surrounding Chris Bosh, Ed Davis may have been the best available pick but he happens to fill a void in a position we will need help in should Bosh leave. Now those are big shoes to fill but the opportunity provides Ed Davis with a lot of minutes with a young Toronto Raptors club where he can develop into a solid player in the NBA.

I look forward to seeing what else Bryan Colangelo has in store to shake up this team before training camp starts. But if one thing is for sure our club continues to get younger, which isn’t a bad thing. After all look at Oklahoma City and how exciting that young team is to watch. Sometimes very talented basketball players get stuffed away on a bench with out a chance to ever shine.
