It’s not in the realm of probability, but then Michael Jordan did give baseball a try. So is LeBron James really interested in the NFL while pro basketball lollygags in lockout land?
James added more fuel to the fire Tuesday by posing a question about the NFL deadline for signing free agents on a pro football writer’s Twitter account.
“When is the deadline for a team to sign a free agent?” James asked ESPN’s John Clayton on Tuesday in a tweet.
James, one of the NBA’s major stars, suited up with the football team at his high school last week. Fuzzy math has produced an equation that James might be interested in part-time employment with the NFL since NBA collective bargaining is stalemated.
Taking snaps as a wideout with Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary is one thing. Playing in the pros seems a stretch.
But James opened a can of worms with his post-practice post on Twitter.
“Just got done practicing with the St.V Varsity football team, full pads and all,” he wrote. “Felt great being back on the field. Should I?”
Probably not. Last time James saw gridiron action was in high school. James didn’t play college football, so he has little exposure to the grinding nature of the game at its most intense. But his Twitter posts had inquiring minds pondering the possibility.
Then there were commercials a few years back when James was a star in Cleveland, signing with the Browns.
