While last weekend’s game pitting the L.A.-based Drew League against the D.C.-based Goodman League created all kinds of buzz within basketball circles, a game set for this week in Baltimore is loaded with even more star power, featuring names like LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul.
James, Anthony and Paul will play for a team representing the Baltimore-based Melo League, which will compete against a roster of Goodman players, including Kevin Durant, Brandon Jennings and DeMarcus Cousins, Hoopsworld reports. Original reports said John Wall would suit up for the Goodman team, but The Washington Post’s Michael Lee tweeted that Wall is in L.A. and will not play.
“LeBron is supposed to be in town for that one day. They told me it’s a go,” Goodman commissioner Mike Rawls told The Post.
Tuesday’s game will be played at St. Frances Academy in Baltimore. It was pushed back from Sunday because of Hurricane Irene. St. Frances seats just 1,000 people, so organizers are searching for a larger venue. Kurk Lee, the athletic director of Anthony’s Melo Center in Baltimore and head of Melo League, told the Post that he has reached out to Towson, Morgan State and Coppin State, none of which has been responsive.
“A lot of kids are going to miss out on this game and it might be LeBron’s first and last time in Baltimore city,” Lee said. “We’ve got to take advantage of this, because very seldom are you going to see LeBron close up, like you’re going to see him on Tuesday. He’s leaving right after the game. “
The game will tip at 7:00 p.m. ET, and tickets can be purchased on game day for $40 for general admission and $100 for a floor seat, according to The Post. Lee said proceeds will go toward several charities.
