Kendrick Perkins Agrees to Contract Extension with Thunder

Published on March 1st, 2011

After turning down an offer from Boston earlier this year for a four-year $22 million contract extension, Kendrick Perkins has agreed to an extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder.  Perkins has not even played a game yet with the Thunder as he is sitting out for the next few weeks with a knee injury.

The new contract with the Thunder is reportedly worth $34.8 million over the next four years. It was not that the Celtics didn’t want Perkins; they simply couldn’t afford to make it happen with him. The Thunder was unable to offer Perkins an amount that they could agree upon.

Looks like holding out for more money paid off for Kendrick Perkins. He was not interested in waiting to see what free-agency would bring to him, but it seems to me like he held out for a pretty good deal. He and Kevin Durant should be a nasty combination on the court. Oklahoma City Thunder tickets just got that much better with the addition of Perkins.
