It may have been the sweetest oh-fer Washington Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos ever had.
Ramos, 24, was in the Aragua Tigers’ lineup Tuesday night, returning to Venezuelan winter ball play less than two weeks after being kidnapped at gunpoint and rescued by police 51 hours later, hardballtalk.com reported.
Batting cleanup as a designated hitter, Ramos went 0-for-5.
Nationals GM Mike Rizzo said last week, in the wake of the event, that he supported Ramos’ decision to remain in Venezuela and continue playing winter ball.
However, according to The Washington Post, Ramos returned to the U.S. for an examination by doctors before rejoining his winter league team in his home country.
The Post also reported that Ramos also is expected to meet with a specialist for traumatic incidents and, according to Post reporter Adam Kilgore, there was extra security in place at Tuesday’s game.
