Ex-Miami RB Tyrone Moss Denies Taking Gifts From Booster

Tyrone Moss, a former University of Miami running back identified in an investigative report about Hurricane athletics, denies saying he accepted $1,000 from former booster Nevin Shapiro and was a passenger on Shapiro’s yacht.

Moss, who was quoted in the report by Yahoo! Sports, told The Miami Herald: “I never did a story. I never admitted to receiving $1,000 from anyone.” He also told the newspaper, “I don’t know where they got those quotes from … I never met him.”

When contacted by the Herald, Charles Robinson, the primary reporter for Yahoo!’s story, played a recordings of Moss’ interview with him.

Robinson also said via his Twitter account that Moss was not truthful in his denials to Miami television station WPLG. Robinson added that the station never contacted Yahoo! to confirm an interview took place.

Gerry Ahern, Yahoo!’s managing editor for college sports and investigations, told the Herald that he stands behind the story. “Moss’ quotes were part of a taped, on-the record interview,” Ahern said.

Moss was the only UM football player, past or present, with identified, on-the-record comments in the Yahoo! Sports report.
